Weather service offers course to learn about weather terms

A unique class will soon be offered by the Paducah National Weather Service.

The Severe Weather Product Interpretation Webinar will be held on Tuesday, May 21st from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

According to the description, the class is designed to teach the public about "severe weather graphical products and indices useful for better understanding SPC and WFO discussions as well as for individual product understanding."

Name released of man killed in recycling center explosion

GREENVILLE, KY (WFIE)-

We now know the name of the person who was killed in an accident barrel explosion at the Greenville Recycling Center II in Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky.

The Muhlenberg Deputy Coroner says the man killed was 28-year-old Robert Adam Baxter of Greenville.

Representatives from OSHA were on the scene and there is still no word on what caused the explosion.

Free airplane rides for Greenville kids

GREENVILLE, KY (WFIE)- Some kids in Muhlenberg County will be soaring above the clouds taking free plane rides.

The Muhlenberg County Airport and the EAA Young Eagles Program are taking the word free to new heights, with a unique opportunity to get their wings wet this weekend.

Hopkins County school board names new superintendent

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (WFIE)- Linda Zellich has been named the new superintendent of Hopkins County Schools, effective July 1.

She has been the district's deputy superintendent for the past four years, and previously served as assistant superintendent.

"I'm obviously excited and looking forward to the new challenges that come with this position," says Zellich. "This is my community, and I want the district to do all we can to ensure our children's success."

One fatality confirmed following recycling center explosion

GREENVILLE, KY (WFIE)- There has reportedly been an explosion at the Greenville Recycling Center.

An employee of the center tells 14 News there was one fatality as a result of the explosion.

The recycling center is located at 108 Wickliffe Street in Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky.

OSHA is on the way to the scene.

$72,000 raised for cancer research

GREENVILLE, KY (WFIE) - Thousands of dollars raised for cancer research.

The Muhlenberg county Relay for Life, which happened May 10th, brought out hundreds to walk all night in support of cancer research. The event registered 23 teams and raised $72,517 in one day.

Best friends now valedictorians

Of the record sixty students graduating from Dawson Springs high school May 17, two valedictorians have been chosen to represent their class.

Ryan Caudill and McCade Freeman have been best friends since 8th grade. They both plan on studying engineering at the University of Kentucky, and, not to mention, they will also be college rommates.

"We compete a lot even though we don't really say we do, I know we do," Caudill stated. "We just push each other to do better on tests and always want to beat each other in everything we do."
