Mining Institute offers free public demos during Safety Days

 

The Western Kentucky Mining Institute will be holding its Safety Days on Wednesday, May 22 and Thursday, May 23 in Madisonville, Ky.  The WKMI represents Western Kentucky’s coal mining communities, which includes its miners, mining companies, suppliers and government agencies.  The organization continues to work together for the advancement of safety in the nation’s coal mines.

Has your child always wanted to ride in an airplane but you’ve never quite been able to swing it?  Here’s your chance.  EAA Chapter 1184 out of Greenville will be flying young folks ages 7 thru 17 at the Muhlenberg County Airport on Saturday May 18.  There is no cost.

Sign up will start around 9 a.m. with flights starting just after that.  Flights will continue until about noon but that could change depending on attendance.

2013 Friday Night Live plans set in Madisonville

The City of Madisonville, in partnership with Baptist Health and the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission, announces that the 13th anniversary of the free downtown concert series and street festival, Friday Night Live, kicks off on Friday, June 14th around the courthouse square in downtown Madisonville. This summer’s Friday Night Live event takes place on June 14th, July 12th, and August 9th with activities from 6 – 10 PM each evening.

 

Daron Jordan, Community Development Director for the City of Madisonville, stated “We are pleased to continue the partnership with Baptist Health and the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission to present the 2013 edition of Friday Night Live. With these partnerships, we can continue to promote the downtown area as a place of community gathering and to grow this annual event. The community continues to support Friday Night Live and the popularity of the event continues to grow due to the formation of these collaborations. The partnerships underwrite the annual costs associated with hosting Friday Night Live and allow it to remain a free event.”

Bullying will be topic of presentation at Browning Springs

 

Bully Proof Program creator Brooks Gibbs will give a presentation for parents at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at Browning Springs Middle School. Everyone is invited.

Gibbs, who will speak to BSMS students and staff during sessions earlier in the day, will share his insights on bullying. He has pioneered easy and effective methods to teach victims of bullying the skills they need not just to thrive, but to thrive.

Greenville concert series a Top 10

The Kentucky Travel Industry Association has selected Saturday's on the Square, in Greenville, as part of their 2013 Summer Top 10 Festivals and Events.  Saturdays on the Square runs from July 6th to August 24th.  This is the fifth year for this concert series held in historic downtown Greenville.

Residents of Madisonville took time Friday to officially welcome spring!  Members of the community and kids from the Hopkins County YMCA celebrated Arbor Day with a tree planting at the YMCA.  Madisonville is apart of Tree City USA as named by the National Arbor Foundation.
