Saturday program at Pennyrile State Forest honors veterans

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park will host a “Salute Our Veterans Day” Nov. 10, in honor of all veterans.

This program is free for all to attend. The park invites veterans to come and tell their stories and bring their memorabilia. Mike Freeland, a World War II veteran, will be on hand to begin the storytelling on Saturday and host the event.

Registration will be from 5-6 p.m. in the lodge lobby. There will be a meet and greet from 6-6:30 p.m. in the meeting room. “Experience of War Stories” will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the meeting room.

Saturday, November 3rd - 9:30 a.m. - 1st year anniversary & ribbon cutting for the PR Zone Athletic Revolution located 715 Robert Draper Way, Greenville.

Thursday, November 8th - Chamber membership meeting at noon at the Central City Convention Center.

Friday, November 9th - ribbon cutting at noon for the new location of Radio Shack in Copper Creek Shopping Center.

American Heart Association walk

The MCC American Heart Association Walk will be held on Saturday, November 10, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on the Health Sciences Campus (750 North Laffoon Street, Madisonville).  Event highlights include:

•Team Participation & Fundraising

•2nd Annual 5k run/walk starting at noon

•Heart Healthy Education and Information

•Activities for Kids

What's happening in Muhlenberg County this weekend?

It's a busy weekend of activities coming in up Muhlenberg County.  Here's a look at some of them:

Start Saturday out with Greenville Lion’s Club Annual Fall Breakfast  at First Baptist Church in Greenville from 6 a.m.  – 10:00 a.m.  All you can eat for $6.

Saturday will be Central City’s Hometown Harvest Festival.  This is family event with many activities including a dog show, scavenger hunt, cupcake wars, free movies, etc.

Saturday will also be “Michael Cooper-Masked Marvels and Wondertales” at the Felix E. Martin Jr. Hall.

FamilyFest returns

FamilyFest returns

FamilyFest is back for a 13th year.  The largest one-day event in western Kentucky takes place on Wednesday, October 31, at Covenant Community Church from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m.

The parking lot will be filled with games, carnival rides ($3 for unlimited rides), home made food, face painting, a picture booth and more.  Free candy will be given out to kids.

There’s a pie eating contest, line dancing, giveaways and more.

Restaurant holding pet adopt-a-thon Saturday

The Hopkins County Humane Society is hosting an adopt-a-thon on Saturday, Oct. 20 from noon until 3 pm at Dave's Sticky Pig Barbeque Restaurant in Madisonville. There will be a wide range of animals up for adoption.

Dave's Sticky Pig will also donate $10 to each person who decides to adopt an animal. The humane society is preparing for a move to a new shelter over the next several months and this is one way they're trying to promote their spay and neuter program.
