Hopkins County Schools and Hopkins County Family YMCA are again sponsoring the Summer Feed-ing Program, which will offer meals starting Wednesday, May 22. The federal program offers free meals for children when school is not in session. Anyone 18 and younger may eat at any of the sites.

Camp Wonderkids is scheduled for June 3-7 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day at the Madisonville City Park.  Designed for children ages 6-12 with asthma, this free camp helps educate children about their disease, teaches them how they can better control its effect on their lives, plus provides an opportunity for them to enjoy a typical day camp experience.

Baptist Health-Madisonville adopts new care plan

In Hopkins County, Baptist Health taps TransforMed to help transition to patients centered medical home model of care delivery.  Hospital officials say the new program focuses on prevention of diseases and allowing patients greater access to doctors.  Patients will now have open web portals and easier scheduling times to enhance the physician-patient relationship.  Madisonville is the first residency program in the Baptist Health system to undergo this transformation.

The Green River Area Development District will host two free trainings by the Alzheimer’s Association on Thursday, May 2nd, at the GRADD Office (300 GRADD Way, Owensboro).

The first, “Communicating and Relating,” will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon; and the second, “Activities and Safety at Home,” will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The “Communicating and Relating” workshop will detail the behavioral changes experienced by individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and it will provide caregivers with practical suggestions to deal with these changes.

A push across the country for parents to make sure their babies have the recommended immunizations.  Correct vaccinations for children by age two can aid in protection from 14 serious diseases.  Officials say 2-3 million deaths occur each year from vaccine preventable diseases, half of those deaths are children under three years old.

Pediatricians stress correct timing of immunizations is also critical to their effectiveness.

Owensboro Health to purchase Family Practice of Greenville

 

On Wednesday, May 1, Family Practice of Greenville, PSC, will become part of the Owensboro Health network of medical practices.

“We will continue to provide our patients with quality health care services,” said Marshall E. Prunty, MD, who founded the clinic 29 years ago. “Mitzi Gardner, our nurse practitioner, will continue to see patients as well, and the staff our patients have come to know over the years will still be here to serve them.”

The practice will adopt Owensboro Health Multicare Greenville as its name. Services will include family medical care for children and adults, and on-site lab testing. Prunty will still see patients at Muhlenberg Community Hospital and at two area long-term care facilities: the Maple Manor and Belle Meade nursing homes.
