Kentucky State Police have unveiled their new Western Kentucky forensic lab.

The state-of-the-art lab is located in Madisonville and law enforcement technicians tell us they're excited about the bigger work area.  As well as, new forensic biology labs, new equipment for drug testing, and clan lab analysis.

"But coming to this laboratory it's for the analysts.  They needed the place to work.  They're the ones who punch the buttons and find the results and report them," says KSP Lieutenant Mark Mayes.

Fund set up for man killed at Greenville Recycling

GREENVILLE, KY (WFIE) - A fund has been set up to help support the family of Adam Baxter, who was killed last month in an accident at Greenville Recycling Centre II. 

Baxter was cutting a barrel open with racing fuel inside, the fumes ignited, and caused an explosion killing Baxter.  Baxter leaves behind a wife and three children.

Historic building gets money for facelift

MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) - A $60,000 grant was recently approved for use by the Rosenwald-Smith Multicultural center in Madisonville.

The center, which opened over 80 years ago, was originally an African American high school with a rich basketball history.  Officials say the grant will be used to re-furbish the old gym floor and provide insulation for the building.

" And so it's being utilized now as much as it can be, but we figure with the renovations continuing then it will enhance it more as it goes along," says Hopkins County Judge Executive Donald Carroll.

HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (WFIE) - Registration began today for a new health contest.  The Hopkins County Library is teaming up with Baptist Health Madisonville, for Learn & Burn.  The new program is another outlet for health concious information. 

The 12-week program involves a "Healthy Topics" speaker series at the library every Thursday from 6:00-6:30pm.

To be a participant you must be at least 18 years of age.  There will be 2 divisions, for men and women.  Participants must weigh-in every Thursday at the library between 10:00am and 6:00pm.

Marks appears in court for murder charge

HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (WFIE) - Judge James Brantley will decide June 24th on whether to reduce the $500,000 cash bond for Brandon Marks, the 18-year-old charged with murder, first degree assault, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.  Marks was in court today.  All of the charges against Marks stem from an accident on KY 254 earlier this year in Madisonville.
