Officials say there's a need for more volunteer firefighters in Hopkins County.
No volunteers were available for an RV fire that happened in Hanson on Wednesday, so firefighters from Madisonville had to respond.
Hopkins Cuonty Fire Departments are speaking out and stressing the need for more volunteers for these already short-staffed departments. Hanson Fire Department was unable to respond to a call because no volunteers were available.
Madisonville Fire Department had to send two trucks to the scene where there was also a full propane tank on board the RV which didn't explode.
For all 550 square miles of Hopkins County, there are 15 fire departments with all made completely of volunteers except Madisonville. Officials tell 14 News a fire doubles in size every minute.
Fire departments across the area have anywhere from eight to 25 total volunteers. White Plains Chief jason Eli says the community is at risk.
