Mistrial declared in trial of man charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse | News
HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE)- A Hopkins County judge has declared a mistrial in the Cecil Salyers trial.
52-year-old Salyers is charged with six counts of first degree sexual abuse and several other charges.
The first thing Commonwealth Attorney David Massemore said to the families was, "It's not over. We will get a retrial. I'm sorry."
"It was an excruciating thing for them to have to testify and relive these events. But, the good news is, they've done it. They are ready to go forward again if we have to do that. They will be stronger the second time around. So we are ready to go forward. This man will be tried again," Massemore said.
Families and members of the Commonwealth Attorney's Office were visibly shaken by the court's ruling on Wednesday, and officials say this case cannot start earlier than October 1 because this jury panel cannot hear it again.
