Neighbors help neighbors pick up after EF-2 tornado | News
MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE)- The National Weather Service said the overnight tornado in Muhlenberg County was an EF-2 with winds of up to 120 mph.
"We had a tree sticking through the window, partly. Rain was coming in and glass everywhere," McElwain said.
McElwain said she tried to go back to sleep, but couldn't, with her house damaged.
She never expected the next day that more than a dozen neighbors and strangers to show up to help fix her house.
"A lot of them, I don't even know. I never seen them before, but they have worked all day working on this house. I'm so thankful," McElwain said.
"We're replacing the rafters. We're replacing the lays. You couldn't hire someone to do it because if it rains in there, it is going to do terrible damage," resident Lester Cottongim said.
"I don't know how to repay them," McElwain said.
One of the guys who pitched in to help told 14 News that good people pull together when something like this happens. Just neighbors helping neighbors.
