Madisonville seeks state grant to keep motorists in line

Madisonville will apply for a state grant to keep more officers on the road and reduce accidents.

The $17,790 grant will be administered through the Highway Safety Grant program.  If Madisonville is successful, the funds would cover the cost of traffic details and overtime hours, according to a report from our media partner, The Messenger.

Chief Wad Williams says it would allow his officers to work in ‘hot spots’ where collisions happen more frequently.

In addition, officers will be checking to make sure motorists are using seat belts and driving with insurance that’s valid and current.
