HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE)- CSX crews are continuing to investigate a train derailment in Hopkins County.
Kentucky State Police says 15 train cars derailed and fell onto their side early Saturday afternoon near US 41 between Mortons Gap and Nortonville.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the derailed cars have the US 41 and Hopkinsville Road crossing blocked between US 62 in Nortonville and KY 813 in Mortons Gap.
KYTC says US 41 will likely remain closed at the site until about 6:00 p.m. Sunday night, while work continues on clearing and repairing the tracks.
They say motorists should still use the detour set up via the Pennyrile Parkway between exit 33 and exit 37.
KSP told 14 News that all the derailed train cars were empty at the time of the incident.
