Muhlenberg Co. authorities rounding up suspected drug dealers | News
MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE)-
Blakeley said that without the public's help, Tuesday's round-up wouldn't have been possible.
"We are listening to our community, to their complaints and their concerns and we are targeting the ones that are out there selling," Blakeley said.
According to the sheriff's office, this latest investigation actually began several months ago and targets street-level drug dealers.
Muhlenberg County Sheriff Curtis McGehee explained how a detective laid the ground work for the round-up.
"He was able to do controlled buys, and as a result of that investigation, able to secure a number of felony warrants so that we could have this round-up today," Sheriff McGehee said.
24 warrants, to be exact.
Representatives from Greenville and Central City Police Departments and Kentucky State Police served some of them as well.
Sheriff McGehee said, "We had our officers to divide up in teams to go out and execute these warrants, so we had several teams that went out this morning."
But it was that public involvement that law enforcement said was crucial.
"We found that the community is really tired of the drug problem. They want to be involved. They want to help us," Sheriff McGehee said.
"Getting together and doing the round-up is showing a community effort, showing law enforcement effort to get out there and let them know that we are doing our job. We are trying to fight this problem," Blakeley said.
