A unique class will soon be offered by the Paducah National Weather Service.

The Severe Weather Product Interpretation Webinar will be held on Tuesday, May 21st from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

According to the description, the class is designed to teach the public about "severe weather graphical products and indices useful for better understanding SPC and WFO discussions as well as for individual product understanding."

Essentially, if there are terms you hear the National Weather Service talk about, but aren't sure what they mean, this

Flooding continues on the Green River

Flooding continues on the Green River

Heavy rainfall of 2 to 3 inches the last several days continues to keep the Green River above flood stage at Paradise.

As of Monday night, the Green was at 328.7 feet.  Flood stage is 380.0 feet.  Minor flooding is occuring and is expected to stay minor.   The river is forecast to drop below flood stage by Friday afternoon.

Remember, never drive your car or truck through flooded waters as unseen drop-offs are possible.  The current may also be stronger than it appears.

Weekend weather: Rain and plenty of it

Weekend weather: Rain and plenty of it

A series of weather systems will push through the Tri-State over the weekend.  We'll have periods of rain by Friday evening, and will continue with showers through Sunday.  Rain amounts will range around an inch north of the Ohio River to more than 2" south of the Ohio River in Western Kentucky.

Temperatures will hover in the 60's on Saturday and Sunday and then rise into the mid to upper 70's for much of next week.  More rain chances are on the horizon for Wednesday and Thursday.

Bad storms a strong possibility

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop, particularly over western Kentucky later this afternoon and evening.  A Severe T-Storm WATCH is in effect for all of our W KY counties until 9 p.m.

A cold front is still scheduled to move in late in the day on Thursday/Thursday night, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms.  Most of the Tri-State has been elevated to a MODERATE RISK for severe weather Thursday.

Warmer weather... and allergies on the way

Warmer weather... and allergies on the way

Record cold temperatures below freezing have kept tree pollen from getting too bad so far.  But that's about to change.

Temperatures in the 60s and 70s this weekend and into next week should kick trees into overdrive producing pollen-inducing allergies.

By this time last year, most trees had already blossomed, but our very chilly start to the year has lasted into early spring, meaning all those trees, lawns and flowers and bursting to get going.

Keep your Kleenex handy.

Moon over Muhlenberg County

Moon over Muhlenberg County

We've had some dreary days and moonless nights thanks to some lazy weather systems that parked themselves over the Tri-State.  Finally, thiings broke a little last night and Muhlenberg County resident Steven Wilkerson snapped this cool photo of the full moon.

The extended forecast shows temperatures warming into the 50s by the weekend. However, scattered rain is in the forecast for Saturday and Easter Sunday.
